Towing Capacity by Engine

Your engine determines your base towing limit and which max-tow packages are available. Start here to see the 2024 ratings for your specific truck setup.

Ford’s towing charts sometimes use technical engine labels. We show the familiar engine name first and Ford’s chart label alongside it so you can match both.

TECHNICAL GUIDE

Document-level towing rules for the 2024 guide.

This data defines the physics and safety boundaries of the 2024 guide. These document-level rules take precedence and apply alongside the row-specific weights.

FIG. 2024 EQUIP Printed Guidance

What the guide prints as required or recommended

  • Recommended: A weight-carrying hitch is recommended for all vehicles towing trailers less than 5,000 pounds. Ford guide, p. 13
  • Required: Weight-distributing hitch: required for certain Class III and all Class IV applications. Ford guide, pp. 13, 39
  • Required: A conventional, identical full-size spare tire is required for trailer towing (mini, compact and dissimilar full-size spare tires should not be used; always replace the spare tire with a new road tire as soon as possible). Ford guide, p. 45
NOTES: These guide-wide rules apply alongside each row. A blank row requirement means the guide prints no row-specific note for that rating; it does not waive these rules.
