This data defines the physics and safety boundaries of the 2022 guide. These document-level rules take precedence and apply alongside the row-specific weights.

Base loading guidance from Ford

  • Conventional: 10% tongue weight of total loaded trailer weight.
  • 5th-wheel: 15% king pin weight of total loaded trailer weight.
  • 5th-wheel, not recommended: 5th-wheel towing is not recommended for Raptor or Lightning models. Ford guide, p. 23
  • High altitude: reduce gross vehicle weight (GVW) and gross combination weight (GCW) by 2% per 1,000 ft of elevation.

Required equipment and threshold rules for the 2022 guide

  • F-150 non-Lightning pickup Trailers over 5,000 lbs require Trailer Tow Package (17T, 53A, 53B) or Max Trailer Tow Package (53C). The Class IV hitch (53B) alone is limited to the 6,000- or 7,000-lb maximum printed for each engine; see each row's requirements.
  • F-150 Lightning standard-range battery Lightning with the standard-range battery above 5,000 lbs requires Trailer Tow Package (53D).
  • F-150 Lightning extended-range battery Lightning with the extended-range battery above 7,700 lbs requires Trailer Tow Package (53D).

Your New Vehicle Limited Warranty may be voided if you tow without them.
